BHSestimator
The Greatest Discovery Since
Electricity
There are 6
databases sent with the BHS estimator for Windows: Material Database, Assembly Database,
Customer Database, Phase Database, Unit of Issue Database and Type of
Construction Database. Shown here is the Material Database. Our database
ships ready to use with real cost and labor values. Items in the database are
"chained" together to bring up the next logical item when
adding items or assemblies to a bid.

Some of the key
features of the Material Database include:
- Description
Code - A 3-letter designation to aid you in calling up items on the
takeoff. As shown above the 3-letter designation for EMT is EM-.
- Three Cost
columns - Column 1 should already be set for you to estimate with.
Changing the cost of items in the database does NOT automatically change
all your previous estimates. Columns 2 and 3 can be set individually or to
a percentage of Column 1.
- Three
Labor Columns - Column 1 should already be set for you to estimate with.
Of course you may want to fine tune a little for those items that your
crew is really good (or poor) at. Columns 2 and 3 can be set individually
or to a percentage of Column 1.
- UPC Column
- holds a number used in obtaining Material Pricing Updates. BHS provides
Material Updates monthly (or as often as you want). Unlike some pricing
services, we update our entire database each and every time, so you can
update at any frequency that suits your needs and do not have to worry
about missing an issue. Individual items can be blocked from updating or a
standard factor added automatically. The UPC Code can be changed to allow
you to update from a variety of sources including your own local supply
house.
- Next Item
- Items in the database are "chained" together for ease in
taking off the job. For example, if you call up 1/2" EMT, you are
prompted for ells, couplings, connectors, hangers, wire, etc...
- Phase -
This field sets the default Phase of Construction for the item. Phases of
Construction allow you to manage the job after you have won the bid. The
BHS estimator allows for 256 Phases of Construction.
The Assemblies in
the Assembly Database can contain Material Items, other Assemblies and Special
Code Items, just like a mini-estimate.
